My father has always been a history buff. From my childhood and into early adulthood, most outings involved a history lesson: from museums and national parks to battlefields, etc. Coming from a military family we moved about every 18 months. This allowed us to see most of the United States (along with a few other countries) by the time I was an early adult.
Despite the constant moving, my childhood home was always filled with historic artifacts. This included my father's rare coin collection, Native American art & pottery, military memorabilia and Latin American pieces, along with pieces acquired living abroad in parts of Asia. While never properly curated in our living space, it was always exciting to me to be surrounded by such historical cultural objects.
The interest of collecting, owning, and preserving historic artifacts was certainly instilled in me from my father. While my interest may deter from his, the lessons he taught me are not lost. What started as a love affair to furnish my own home quickly spilled over into a small business. CoMod was established in the spring of 2010. With a slow start, this little side project quickly turned into a full-time endeavor by Sept. 2011. Since then, I have continued to grow the business by offering not just vintage furnishings but a small furniture line of my design.
The vintage side of the business offers home furnishing including mid-century modern, industrial, and primitive pieces. Most items are American made. I focus heavily on the purchase and restoration of Herman-Miller Eames pieces.
My furniture line has been inspired from updated mid-century design. Each piece visually celebrates mid-century inspired line and form. The materials are also consistent with classic mid-century modern design. This line is ever-growing and new pieces are added on a regular basis. The line is in collaboration with local woodworker Andy Werth.
At CoMod each piece is carefully selected. I only sell items that I would have in my own home. I strive to curate classic, historic and well designed pieces that will add value and pleasure to any home or office space.
